Laugh Worthy

October 24, 2011

Lately, it's seemed design has gone all high brow and seriously or maybe it's just the conversation at my watering holes but today's post is about getting the laugh back.  Sometimes we just need some silly in our lives.  We need something in our home that makes a smile every time we see it and that starts off conversations.  I call this the wacky factor.  Here's several things that would serve that purpose well.

Ceramic pig speaker from West Elm.  Seriously, never met a pig that I didn't love and this is not exception. Even funnier, this little piggy can be monogrammed so personalize your pig and make it your own.

Haus Interiors has laugh out loud cards that can be framed for instant, funny art.

Check out these sticky notes from Fred Flare.  It'd be way more fun to write the day's to do lists on these.

Put some state pride on that couch with this pillow from Etsy.com.

Ok, I can't help myself-what about having one of these laying around to give a laugh from Regas.

Instant smile maker from Curiosity Shop.  Who doesn't want to put their pens in a monster truck holder?  Wouldn't it make writing bills that much more fun?

Funny Birthday Candles

March 3, 2011

Have you ever lived through this scenario?  The reservations have been made or the dinner cooked. Family and friends are ready to celebrate.  The cake's taken care of but something feels like it's missing... Oh no! No birthday candles.  Well, these candles are so funny you won't forget them.

This will get a laugh from the table.

If it was good enough for the Romans......

For the birthday 3.0

Isn't this how much of us feel?    I mean, am I 27 or 28, just can't seem to remember ( he he).

Kinda never gets old...

80 flashbacks

February 22, 2011

Perhaps the telly was on a bit too long this weekend.  I stumbled upon TV Land old episodes and found myself laughing out loud.  They just don't make shows like this anymore.  Having grown up on the magic trio of Good Times (Dy-no-mite) .....

And the gang from What's happening! (Where's Shirley??)

And the best of the best.... Redd Fox on Sanford and Son (Hey Lamott), it's hard to be satisfied with say.... One Tree Hill.

Best bet of the day??  I found the trio for sale on amazon.

Oh I miss you so, Mr. Foxx.   Check out all the tee shirts and find your favorite.

Doesn't get better than this!

Good for a laugh

January 10, 2011

Gray skies and long work days.  Post holiday blues.  January has always been my least favorite month here but leave it to Improv Everywhere to turn things around.

With a mission statement like this, what's not to love?

  • Improv Everywhere causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 byCharlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 100 missionsinvolving tens of thousands of undercover agents. The group is based in New York City.

Their latest mission took place on this past (very chilly) Sunday and involved hundreds of folks taking the public subways without pants in NYC and 50 other cities in 24 countries.  Check out this hilarious video

    Keep'em coming, Improve Everywhere!

Worst Gifts of 2010 Award

December 15, 2010

There were many contenders for Worst Gift 2010.

First, there was the "Mr. T in your pocket" gadget.  It's actually a keychain that speaks Mr T's famous phrases.   What I say to this?  "I pity the fool... who buys this thing."

The second contender is the inflatable turkey.  There's not much more to say to this. It does nothing nor says anything.  It's simply a blowup turkey.  Why people??

The next contender is the bacon wallet.  Bacon, it seems, is having its moment in the world of gag gifts. I found bacon bandaids, bacon breath mints and bacon teeth floss. One is grosser than the next.  This wallet is especially gross because it really looks like slabs of raw bacon.  Think Lady Gaga at the VMAs.  I asked then and I say now, "Why?" (again)

This one actually has merit as it fixes things but honestly, it's not 1890 when everyone had one pair of undies.   For what this kit costs, you can get your man several new pairs. Splurge, people.

The final contender for the worst gift of 2010 is this.  Words escape me.  Who are the people buying this stuff??    Who does one give such a gift to?  All the "cool kid" stores in NYC are carrying this yet I don't get it.  At all.  I'd get more pleasure from taking a Benjamin and flushing it down the toilet.

Santa, I sure hope I don't find any of this stuff in my stocking.

Girl Crush

November 10, 2010

Drum roll please.

After her wildly successful cookbook,  I like You: Hospitality under the Influence,

my girl crush, Amy Sedaris, has returned.  Her latest venture is called Simple Times, crafts for poor people and she doesn't disappoint.  With chapters like crafting for Jesus and unreturnable gift giving, she'll have you laughing on your worst day.  The lady is crazy but in that, I want to her to be my friend way.  My personal favorite is the section on "stretching before or after crafting."

What a fun stocking stuffer for the closet crafter in your life...

Friday Afternoon Funny

October 29, 2010

Overstock is one of those sites that has a bit of everything.  I start looking for one and end up with a cart full of something else.  The prices make it easy to shop too.  Working on a story this past week,  the PR folks sent me this image and immediately, got a chuckle.   I mean, who thought of this??  Can you image sitting at your desk and creating this? Truly funny... It made me want to throw a Halloween shindig so I'd have an excuse to buy.  It'll be hard to look at a plain ketchup bottle again.

I'd get $10.49 of laughter from this.

Other takes...

(I looked a bit like Mustard Marvin yesterday so feel his pain).

To end the week, I'm serving up these fabulous eye ball truffles from delicious Woodhouse Chocolates.  Check out their gravestone chocolates while you are at it.... so fun!   Bon Appetite!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, y'all!

A History of Rap: Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake & The Roots

A History of Rap: Jimmy Fallon, Justin Timberlake & The Roots

Rather than dishing on design or cool products, I'm ending the week with a digression. While I may lose street cred admitting it, I am a full fledge fan of Jimmy Fallon ( Really, what's not to love?) and "I'm Bringing Sexy Back," Mr. Timberlake.

This makes me happy. Sing it, boys....
